Issues with Inks

So, as I have been doing Execution day I have been experimenting with new things. I am ahead with the pages and could, feasably go on holiday for two months and it'd still be pumping stuff out every five days. But, heres the deal. Execution Day is an experiment in story telling and art work for me, and I have been doing what is necessary for the art, and no necessarily within my comfort zone.

As such, the eagle eyed will notice how I have been moving away from fine liner pens into brushed inks. I wanted to do this for several reasons. Its cheap, is a big factor. Fine liners don't last five seconds and at £2 a pop they just are not worth is. I boguht a bottle of India ink about a year ago and that shit is still going for £8.99.

But also, the brush allows me to be more free with my art. To do more, and to be able to change more with my lines. I can go thick to thin just by chanign my wrist movement and it fits in with the freedom and organic asthetic I want to put into Execution Day. The comic came into life because of what the beautiful human male Arraon Alexovich (Survivor of the In vader Zim idea mines and Serenity Rose creator) said in a quote long lost to the internet. He says that an idea is worth nothing unless you do something with it, and telling everyone about your great comic book you have thought up is nothing in comparison to simply making one to show people, how bad it is at first doesn't matter, because you'll get better.

I am hoping to get better and not look back.

Anything can happen in Execution Day, mostly to test myself, but also, because if I want to sit down and draw a squid pigeon, I will do and can do. Also, I can slot in horrible things like the ancient lord of music:

I looked at todays page, and though, this will not do. I added a touch of ink to it, and ended up ruining a pannel completely, so I had to re-do it. Meaning it has to be recoloured. See, if I had not looked back it would be fine.

So todays page will be 12 hours or so late, because, I am an idiot.

So here it is...

Execution Day.

My attempt at a long-form graphic novel style web comic.

And I'd like to state at this point that whilst I will attempt to update at least weekly, I don't know if that'll happen. I am a busy man. Not in the, I have lots of champagne dinners to go off to or tonnes of work to finish artistically, but more that I have to slave for the man in order to live. TO LIVE!

But yes. At the moment only the title page exists, so I haven't started bouncing the links about. But if you are reading this, there are probably three pages up. Its just its 23 minutes into tomorrow and I want to go to bed, not be uploading files.

What is Execution day?

Its an epic story line, that is leading up to one even. It has spanned the eons of time, and involves Gods, Immortals and one young boy.

Thats about it. Its surreal, violent, and complex.

I hope you enjoy reading it.

Nick Gonzo.
